Who are UltraSound Female Choir?

Lisa Tsindides started performing in 1983 with Forest  and Thistles Operatic Societies, she undertook roles in many shows such as Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma and a multitude of other Musical Theatre classics. She found her love for teaching when she began coaching children in local Performing Arts Schools and the rest as they say is history. She'd always dreamed of running an adult choir and took the leap of faith in 2013 when a spot became available in her local church which is still the home of Ultrasound Female Choir today. The choir is currently 25 people strong and we continue to welcome new members regularly.

What can singing do for you?

Research shows that being part of a choir improves health and happiness, as well as helping manage stress, depression, pain, boosting the immune system and lowering blood pressure. It also exercises the brain as well as the body, but singing is particularly beneficial for improving breathing, posture and muscle tension. So why not give it a try?

READ WHAT CHOIR MEMBERS THINK OF ULTRASOUND!

“I have been part of Ultrasound Choir for 5 years, it has changed my life in so many positive ways.  Lisa the Choirmaster really encourages all of us to be more confident and believe in ourselves.  I have made some wonderful friends, joined shoot off groups and have taken part in concerts, social trips out.  We raise money for different charities and that is how I come to learn about them , by going along to collect a cheque they had raised for a charity I volunteer for. I would have never ever thought I could be part of a Choir, but I am,  and proud to say I am part of the Ultrasound Choir.  It really has changed my life I love it “

"I joined the choir almost 10 year ago and it's the best thing I ever did.  Tuesday's are the highlight of my week!!  I love the variety of different songs, from Bohemian Rhapsody  to The Sound of Music and the fact that we are always working towards a performance gives us a sense of purpose as well.  We perform at local venues raising money for various charities which is very rewarding.   My 'choir family' are a really special group of woman who share a love of singing but we also meet up socially. going to the theatre, cinema, walking etc.  I treasure the close friends I have made and would be lost without my Tuesday fix!!"

"I  joined ultrasound just over a year ago and everybody was so welcoming, it’s the best thing I did. We have such a good time singing great songs and Lisa and the other ladies are not only fellow singers but also a lovely group of friends !!"

"I have been a member of Ultrasound choir since it started in 2013.  It is a vital part of my life.  We sing all types of music and it can be challenging learning the lyrics but keeps the brain sharp.  We also perform particularly at Christmas.  I call the other ladies my 'choir family ' as that is what they are, having seen me through births,  marriages and deaths with love and support.  I wouldnt be without the choir now...it is part of me...!"

"I joined Ultrasound choir in January 2013 having seen one of their Christmas concerts in High Beach and was so impressed with the performance. We are one big, happy choir family - always supporting and encouraging each other. My life has been enriched no end since joining. We have fun but work hard towards performing concerts, singing in care homes, pubs, etc to raise money for nominated charities. There are 'spin off' activities too, organised/run by  choir Committee members such as  Book Club, walking groups, 'Groove' dance sessions, 'Crafternoons', meals out and much more! Come along for a taster session and see what you're missing! We are a very friendly and welcoming group!"

"I've been a member of Ultrasound choir in South Woodford for 11 years.  It has given me so much joy - singing together we are so much more than our individual voices and can create beautiful harmonies.   Lisa chooses many different genres of songs, so there’s always lots of variety and a bit of a challenge to keep us on our toes!  Singing makes me feel good, physically and emotionally, and has improved my confidence, which helped me to start my own dance classes, something I’d wanted to do for years!   In our choir we have formed strong friendships, raised thousands of pounds for various charities and had lots of fun and laughter on outings together, besides performing our own shows. We also sing in pubs, residential homes and community events.  Singing with Ultrasound has been a wonderful addition to my life and I love it!"

"I joined Ultrasound a few months after they had started as for years I had wanted to sing in a choir.  For some time I would stay in the back row, loving the learning, harmonising, singing and joining in but not feeling confident enough to put myself forward to sing a solo, until one week Lisa said, June next week your having a go at a solo verse!  I had a go, shakily!  From then on Lisa encouraged me to try and I haven’t looked back since!  Since then she has supported me and all of the choir to stretch ourselves and try all kinds of performances and music, from show tunes with some acting thrown in, to ballads and medleys.  Ultrasound has become an important part of my life. I love learning new songs, Lisa putting her own twists on songs, and the camaraderie in the choir is great.  We are a very supportive group of women, a mix of ages and opinions but it all works well.  I love my Ultrasound family!"

Do you fancy being part of something special?

Ultrasound is a well-established female choir that celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2023.

We are a friendly, welcoming group of women who share a love of all genres of music.

We are always working towards performance and sing several times a year to help raise funds for various charities. We also organise social events throughout the year to the theatre, cinema and restaurants. If you enjoy singing and would like to be part of our community, please come and join us.

Lisa provides audio files to make it easy to learn and practice song parts and lyrics at home between choir sessions so that we can progress together towards perfecting our performances.
